# Franschhoek Wine Tram With Kids

Children can join the Franschhoek Wine Tram. Choose a departure and estate stops that give them something to enjoy between rides, such as a garden, play area or family lunch. A Tram First departure is recommended for younger children, and prams need to be folded while aboard.

## Start with the ride

For little ones looking forward to the tram, choose a Tram First departure where available. This puts the rail ride early in the day. Other parts of the route use tram buses to reach estates away from the track.

Keep the number of stops manageable. A couple of estate visits with time for food and play gives you more freedom than a full schedule of adult tastings.

## Choose estates with children in mind

Franschhoek Cellar has a children’s area and sits on Blue, Pink and Red. Pink also reaches Pigcasso’s farm sanctuary. On Green, Zorgvliet has a jungle gym and splash pad.

Use the [estate activities guide](https://winetram.co.za/estate-activities/) to compare what children can do, then confirm the activity with the estate before your visit. A particular play area or activity may have its own opening times.

Adults do not have to buy a wine tasting at every stop. You can choose a visit around lunch, a garden walk or time together at the estate.

## Bringing a pram

Bring a pram that you can fold for the journey. Space aboard the vehicles is limited, and you will need to collapse it while travelling.

If someone in your family needs help boarding or moving around the estates, contact the Wine Tram team before booking. Access differs between facilities, so describe the assistance you need.

## Plan lunch and the journey home

Choose a lunch stop on your line and reserve ahead where required. Outside food is not allowed on the tram or tram bus; food is available at the estates and terminals. The [lunch guide](/where-to-eat-on-wine-tram/) helps you compare stops.

The [day trip from Cape Town](/) lasts about 8½ hours including the return road journey. Consider that full day when deciding whether to take the coach or visit while staying in Franschhoek.
