Wine Tram guide

Which Franschhoek Wine Tram Line Is Best?

Choose Orange for Babylonstoren and Boschendal, Red for Haute Cabrière, or Pink for Chamonix and Dieu Donné. The best Wine Tram line is the one that reaches the estates you want to spend time at. Start with a favourite winery or a lunch reservation, then choose the route around it.

01Choose your line by the estates

Each colour takes you to a different group of wineries. Some stops appear on several lines, giving you more choice when planning the rest of the day.

Choose this line For these estates
Orange Babylonstoren, Boschendal and Plaisir
Green Bartinney, Allée Bleue and Boschendal
Red Haute Cabrière, Mont Rochelle and Eikehof
Pink Chamonix, Dieu Donné and Leopard’s Leap
Blue Holden Manz, La Bri and Maison

Franschhoek Cellar, Grande Provence and Rickety Bridge are shared stops on Blue, Pink and Red. See the full estate list for every stop, then use the line maps and timetables to put your choices in order.

02For gardens and a long lunch

Orange is a good place to start if you want to walk through Babylonstoren’s garden and eat at Boschendal. Give those visits room in your day. A garden walk, tasting and meal leave less time for hopping between other estates.

If lunch is the main event, choose the restaurant first. The Wine Tram lunch guide explains the choices at Babylonstoren, Boschendal, Grande Provence and Rickety Bridge.

03For a day of wine tasting

Look for a line with several wineries you want to try. Blue puts Holden Manz and La Bri on the same route; Pink brings together Chamonix and Dieu Donné. You can stay aboard past an estate that does not interest you.

The route runs in one direction, so decide before passing a stop. You cannot come back to a skipped winery later on the same journey.

04Match the line to your booking

Available routes depend on the operating day. Select your date before settling on a particular estate or reserving lunch. If you are joining the day trip from Cape Town, plan around the line offered with your departure.
