Wine Tram guide

Best Wineries on the Franschhoek Wine Tram

Choose Babylonstoren for a garden visit alongside your tasting, Boschendal for wine and a picnic, or Grande Provence for art and lunch. Rickety Bridge is another choice if you want to add a wine experience to your day. The best stops depend on how you want to spend your time, and which estates share your Wine Tram line.

01Babylonstoren: make time for the garden

Babylonstoren is on the Orange Line. You can combine a wine tasting with a walk through the garden, browse the farm shops and stop for something to eat. It suits visitors who want to spend a substantial part of the day at one estate.

For lunch, book Babel ahead or visit the Greenhouse, where tables are allocated as they become available. See the lunch guide before deciding how much of your day to spend here.

02Boschendal: stay for lunch

Boschendal is on Orange and Green. Choose it when lunch is part of the reason for your visit: the estate has a Deli and picnic options alongside its wine experiences.

A picnic gives you a reason to linger between rides. Book through Boschendal and fit the meal around your line’s pickup times.

03Grande Provence: wine and art

Grande Provence combines wine tasting with a gallery, sculpture gardens and places to eat. It is a useful choice for a group with different interests, giving you something to explore around the tasting.

You can reach Grande Provence on Blue, Pink or Red. Those lines also stop at Rickety Bridge and Franschhoek Cellar, so you have several ways to build the rest of the day.

04Rickety Bridge: choose a wine experience

Rickety Bridge has tastings, a wine-blending experience and an estate restaurant. Choose it if you want to spend time on a wine activity and stay for a meal rather than move straight to another stop.

Reserve a particular experience directly with the estate. Your Wine Tram ticket gets you there; it does not reserve a tasting or restaurant table.

05Put your favourite stops on one route

Use the estate-to-line directory to see which wineries you can visit together. Haute Cabrière is on Red; Chamonix and Dieu Donné are on Pink; Holden Manz and La Bri are on Blue.

Pick the estate you most want to see, then add another stop on that line. The line comparison helps you make that choice without trying to fit the whole valley into one day.

06Frequently asked questions

Can I visit all four of these estates on one line?

No. Babylonstoren and Boschendal share Orange, while Grande Provence and Rickety Bridge share Blue, Pink and Red.

Do I need to taste wine at every stop?

No. You can choose an estate for its garden, food or other activities. Admission and activity fees are separate from your transport ticket.

How many estates should I plan to visit?

Start with two if you want a garden visit and a long lunch. Add another only when the timetable leaves you enough time to enjoy it.
