Wine Tram guide

Where to Eat on the Franschhoek Wine Tram

Choose Babel at Babylonstoren for a reserved restaurant lunch, the Greenhouse for a lighter meal after a garden walk, or Boschendal for its Deli and picnics. Grande Provence and Rickety Bridge also have restaurants on the Blue, Pink and Red lines. Lunch is paid for separately, so choose your stop and book a table where needed.

01Find lunch on your line

Your restaurant needs to fit the route you have booked. Start with these options, then choose a time you can reach comfortably by tram or tram bus.

Estate Wine Tram line Lunch choices
Babylonstoren Orange Babel restaurant or Greenhouse
Boschendal Orange or Green Deli or Werf picnic
Grande Provence Blue, Pink or Red The Oak or the Bistro
Rickety Bridge Blue, Pink or Red Estate restaurant

02Babel or Greenhouse at Babylonstoren?

Babel is the choice for a planned restaurant meal. Lunch is served Wednesday to Sunday and reservations are essential. Book the table after confirming that your Wine Tram departure can get you there in time.

The Greenhouse serves lighter food at the back of the garden. It opens daily and takes walk-ins, with tables allocated as they become available. Leave room for a wait during busy periods.

03Lunch at Boschendal, Grande Provence or Rickety Bridge

At Boschendal, choose between the Deli and a Werf picnic. The Werf Restaurant has closed, so use the estate’s current dining choices when making your plans.

Grande Provence has The Oak and the Bistro, while Rickety Bridge takes bookings for its estate restaurant. Reserve directly with the restaurant and mention that you are arriving on the Wine Tram.

04Give lunch enough time

Choose your meal time alongside the tram timetable. You need time to reach the restaurant from the drop-off point, eat and return for a later pickup. A tasting before lunch makes the stop longer still.

If you are on the Cape Town coach tour, work back from the return departure before booking an afternoon table. The one-day itinerary shows how to make lunch part of a relaxed two-estate visit.

05Frequently asked questions
